On Being Away

For the past few months, I have been away. Away from work, away from the internet (mostly), socially away…How many ways can one be “away”? My website has been down and I have taken my sweet time about getting it back up. I wish I could say I was luxuriating in the Bahamas, but alas, no. The timing mostly coincided with the Mars retrograde cycle in Gemini in my 12th house, and I was just away. Nothing to do with the pandemic, no big crisis, just an attention deficit dysfunction to the idea of making an effort. And while I was away, I got new knees. I cleaned and reorganized much of the contents of my house, tended to some family responsibilities, and mostly enjoyed not feeling guilty about being away.

If anyone missed me online, I am flattered. Thank you. And now, I am back to work.

This is my fresh new website, on a new hosting platform, clean from malware. I lost all of the content in the previous iteration of my website, so rebuilding this one is a work in progress.

Look for my bio and details about my work as an astrologer on the About and Consulting pages.

I am taking new consulting clients. If you are interested in a consulting appointment, use the contact form on this website or email me at julia@astro-logical.com.

It’s time for a new solstice newsletter. Past time, really. But, you know . . . I was away. However there are many changes happening in the sky this spring. Pluto, Jupiter, Saturn, and the Nodes, are all changing signs. It suggests a good time to get back to writing. If you are on my mail list, look for a new edition of my newsletter, Missives from Jupiter. If not, feel free to sign up. You won’t hear from me often, but hopefully, it’s worth the wait. And no worries, I never share email addresses with anyone, ever.

I will be presenting at the AOA in Kansas City May 8 on the Jupiter ingress in Taurus, Jupiter is my favorite subject, although now that I have transitioned from my Jupiter life period into my Saturn period, (it’s an age thing) I may spend more time visiting with Papa Saturn. Maybe even another book.

Saturn and Jupiter: Father and Son and The Clash of the Titans on the Solstice

Issue 3 of the Missives From Jupiter News.

I know there are astrologers posting online who tend toward hyperbole as a self promotion tactic. But this year . . . this year . . . I am not sure hyperbole could match all the drama of the January 20, 2020 triple conjunction of Saturn, Jupiter, and Pluto in grim Capricorn. Starting with the first reveal of the looming pandemic exactly on that date.

Quickly following was the very public murder of George Floyd by the police and the ensuing rise of the Black Lives Matter movement. White supremacists marching with tiki torches and Nazi insignias. Crazy people feeding on alt-right media pablum and fighting the idea of wearing a mask in a pandemic. According to investigative reporting by major news outlets, Cyber attacks by Russia kicked off in March without notice or comment from a president whose loyalty to his country is questionable. Donald Trump presided over it all with his cruelty, racism, misogyny, narcissism, arrogance, and ineptitude at a time we we had no space to make allowances for such dalliances. And finally today the Republican party is so determined to stay in power that they are willing to completely upend the constitutional democracy that this country has fought to maintain for the last 250 years.

Now on December 21, 2020, Saturn and Jupiter have moved on together away from Pluto and into egalitarian Aquarius at 0 degrees. The are the closest they have been to each other in 800 years. On the solstice, no less. It is the same conjunction that astrologer’s suggest led the three wise men a.k.a. Chaldean astrologers looking for a new king, to Jesus.

The synchronicities of astrology continue to fascinate me. A brief description of the mythology of Saturn and Jupiter from a Google heading blurb: “After Jupiter (Zeus) was raised by his mother, his destiny was to take over his own father, Saturn (Cronus), as revenge for all he had done to his brothers and sisters in the past. When Jupiter grew up, he made Saturn vomit up all of the children he had swallowed. All the brothers and sisters joined forces and overthrew Saturn in a 10-year battle for supremacy called the Titanomachy.

The clash of the Titans is being replayed in real time and we are seeing it in action now.

Saturn and Jupiter are the two social planets in the solar pantheon and they reflect the political environment the most clearly.

Historian, Heather Cox Richardson, reflected on the politics of the day in December 19 newsletter leading with the Saturn/Jupiter conjunction even as she (I assume) wasn’t aware of it. She talked about the importance of Joe Biden’s appointment of native American, Deb Haaland (D-NM) as Secretary of the Interior Department.

In her lead she quotes Italian philosopher Antonio Gramsci, “The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born: now is the time of monsters,” And she ends with “A new world struggles to be born”.

And now today this article leads in the KC local newspaper

The truth in Black and white: An apology from The Kansas City Star

For Kansas City natives this is huge. I went to high school in KC, at that time, a heavily redlined and segregated city.

Genius and visionary thinker, Aquarius, is also a master of innovation and all things technical. And right on time the amazingly rapid development of a vaccines to fight Covid is complete and delivered. Moderna literally hit the streets today.

You could make this stuff up but it wouldn’t be as dramatic.

Who needs hyperbole.

If you get a chance to view the Saturn/Jupiter conjunction in the sky, it’s worth it. Get outside of the city’s lights and trees and see it in the southwest corner of the sky just after sunset. In this part of the world you have to catch it quick as it is setting behind the Sun. It was very bright tonight but it will be visible separating for a few more days. Binoculars or a telescope would enhance the experience. You might see Jupiter’s moons and Saturn’s rings. Jupiter will actually move through Saturn’s rings. Check your location for the time. Here in KC it will show best between 5:30 and 6.

And of course, a book plug. The Jupiter Advantage is available now in hardcover and softcover. You can order it from any retail bookstore, in stock at Aquarius in Kansas City, and on Amazon.com.

And I will be available for personal consulting the week after Christmas.

Happy Solstice! We are all looking forward the next one…March 21, 2121.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and best wishes for a happy and prosperous new year.

Happy Solstice!

Issue 2 of the Missives From Jupiter News.

Missives from Jupiter for the fall solstice.

I skipped the summer solstice missives. Honestly, in June, the news of the day and the messaging from Mars in aggressive combative Aries square Jupiter/Saturn/Pluto in Capricorn was so unsettling I didn’t see any reason to hammer on it anymore. We are already shell shocked. We need some good news and I couldn’t really come up with any at the time. I tend to be a smart-ass and there really wasn’t anything funny about it.

Now that we have the Jupiter/Saturn conjunction at 0 degrees Aquarius coming into view on the next solstice (winter-December 21) I have some things to share that may help us get through what’s left of 2020. Looking forward is really the only way see our way through what’s happening today.

I want to start by citing a reference from a talk by Wendy Stacey at a recent ISAR conference. She offered a brilliant observation that frames this conversation so well that I am going to share some of her thoughts and credit her.

First, 2020 kicked off the year on January 12 with the Pluto/Saturn conjunction at 22 Capricorn. The symbolism of Saturn and Pluto together is enforced restriction. And this one wrapped its constricting tentacles around the necks of Mercury and the Sun also at 22 degrees Capricorn on that day. It was a fearsome foursome. The Result?
 I CAN’T BREATHE!
Mercury rules the lungs and George Floyd became the unfortunate spokesperson for this unfortunate season. And as Wendy pointed out, it’s not just our lungs, it’s the earth’s lungs. Not only are people being consumed by a respiratory pandemic that has killed over 200,000 of us so far in the US, but wildfires are racing destructively through the western states feeding on the dry winds and scorching the earth. Plus we have already run through this year’s alphabet of named hurricanes.

So, OK, enough, right? Now to the forward-looking part.

Mars in Aries is currently moving backwards in a retrograde pattern. It will trigger this nasty 22 degree marker exactly on October 9. October is about Libra. And Libra opposes Aries. So it will be a contentious month. On December 18 it will trigger again. But after that on December 21st we have Saturn and Jupiter together at zero degrees Aquarius opening the door in the air sign of Aquarius.

I am not saying there are suddenly rainbows and lollipops. But it is a shift. A big one. Mars will be making its last square to Pluto at the same time, so the lurch into the future may be a bit bumpy but it’s happening. You can count on it.

Jupiter in Aquarius brings innovation. Technology, ideas, social change. Aquarius is a fixed sign and Saturn will be the organizing principle, so things start off slowly. But it will be forward-looking and change will be radical. That’s the Aquarius way. It suggests first, a vaccine. That’s the easy one. But it’s bigger than that. This is a 200-year cycle and in the next decade we may be riding around in solar powered air cars. Who knows? I think climate change will become a driving force for much new technological advancement. Aquarius rules equality. The signs of a democratic resurgence around the world may begin to pop up. Perhaps the idea of a guaranteed income will make more sense in a world where production is driven by technology and robots do most of the work. Media and the technology behind it is up for some radical adjustments.

According to Wendy Stacy the transit line of the conjunction reflected on the earth’s surface connects the US with China in a push-me/pull-you sort of way. The ongoing tug of war will play out in the world of technology.

So, my advice to you is hang in, wear your mask and keep yourself safe. This will pass and the future looks way more interesting. You will want to be around to watch it unfold.

And in the United States, make sure you vote. Plan your vote. Go early or mail early. Make sure it counts.
